Strix nebulosa
Synopsis:
Nests in larger conifers in lower montane forests mostly east of the
Cascade crest. Peculiar is an individual observed
in June in the central Coast Range.

Relative Detectability:
Difficult to detect due to nocturnal habits. However,
the range map is more complete than for some other
owl species due to focused efforts by government agencies to survey this
species during the atlas project period.
Challenge:
Refine knowledge of distribution of this species in the Siskiyous,
the north Cascades, and foothills of the western
Cascades.
